“Une Envie De Grandir” A Great Desire
This is an article about my time in France, and the impact I had on the music industry. And, my opinion of the artists in France at the time. I actually received threats from people in the industry who didn’t appreciate my honesty. Then, I had to pull a Don King (lol).
When I was in France I worked with artist Jean Michel Jarre, a new-age artist and one of the most well-known in the world. He is known for the song “Oxygen.” I also worked with KDD, and signed a publishing deal with Universal Music.
Penny Arcade and I at the fundraiser for Miguel Algarin. We raised thousands of dollars to help support him. Thank you for everyone who participated in the fundraiser for Miguel Algarin to celebrate his life and work.
In the words of Penny Arcade, “Every poet should have the skill of shop-lifting.”
Charlie Vazquez, Brooklyn based poet and writer, inspired by Miguel Algarin’s story has organized a fundraiser to help Miguel. Words & Music for Miguel Algarin will take place on July 24th @ the Phoenix at 449 E. 13th Street from 4-10:30 PM.
The event will include poets, spoken-word, artists Capicu, Acentos, Vazquez, San Juan Hill, and Machete Movement.
Miguel is an inspiration. He created, as he intended, a “house of poetry” and started a movement. In the words of Vazquez, “All of us who are doing this are inheritors of the tradition he set.”
Come support Miguel and continue the tradition on July 24th.
I was interviewed by Sonic Scoop on “The Miguel Algarin Story” check it out.
I produced and directed this video for Rally Bop, a Jamaican Hip-Hop artist. We shot this video in 4 cities-Paris, New York City, Belfast, Dublin in one week. A feature on the video was a lead story in the NY Daily News.
The Miguel Algarin Story is produced and directed by Will Roberson, President Diggin 4 Brown Productions and Creative Director for Film at the Universal Music Production Center. The Miguel Algarin Story is a documentary based on the life of Miguel Algarin founder of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, where such artists like Luis Guzman, Jennifer Lopez, Rosario Dawson, John Leguizamo, Miguel Pinero, Ray Barry, and many others got started. This documentary captures what happens in real time in the life of Miguel. This is the lead up to the actual film that I will direct and produce in association with Nuyorican Press. The script for the feature film is being written by Dennis Hamilton. If you would like to get involved with this film, please contact Will Roberson at WilRobe2000@yahoo.com.
